Keelzebub Keeley Thomson Book 2 eBook PS Power

First, let me say the two Keeley Thomson books I've read so far read like parts of the same book instead of separate books. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just saying . . .

The first book (Demon Girl) I liked well enough to think it deserved 4 or 5 stars. It was a fast read with great premise. This second book (Keelzebub) isn't quite as successful and it isn't because it's not a good story. There are a number of problems with this book.

The writing needs SERIOUS cleanup. It reads like someone spell checked it but didn't proof read it to ensure a smooth read. The writing displaying a concerting number of two, too, to issues (words that sound the same but means something different). The punctuation is sketchy in places making sentences difficult to understand without rereading. It's lacking commas and breaks that would clarify the meaning. I hate having to reread to get the meaning. Double parentheses are used inside dialog instead of single parentheses. Sloppy.

The story line problem involves the age of the main character. She jumps from being a 16 year old to being a hundred years old back to being a 16 year old. Hello? Just sloppy. She goes from being bottom of the rung in power to most powerful and back and breaks rules established in previous writings with no consequences attached. She becomes Mistress of Souls without a clear explanation of how that transition occurred. Her parents behavior changes too abruptly with no adequate explanation.

So, it's a great story if you can get past the sloppy writing and grossly liberal ideology. I'm only giving it three stars but am still recommending it as a good read. Better housekeeping would have made it a great read.

Keelzebub Keeley Thomson Book 2 eBook PS Power Reviews

This is a good and fun series. My sole problem with it is the way the author (I feel) goes out of his way to mock Christianity. For me, that ruins what would otherwise be a great storyline.
This is the second book of the Demon Girl series and starts where the first book (Demon Girl (Keeley Thomson Book One)) left off. It continues Keeley's coming of age as she learns to come to grips with her new powers. The first book didn't really have much of the conclusion but this book certainly does. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens to Keeley next.

As several other reviewers have pointed out this author has a wonderful imagination and I've truly enjoyed their books more than most authors I've read. So far I've got close to 200 books I've read from and until I hit this author I had rarely read books twice (The exceptions being large series that I forget over the years like Wheel of Time.). Now I've read almost all of this authors works at least twice some three or four times in a couple of months.
I just love reading this series. I have all the books now. And will start buying other books by this author.
I enjoyed the tale of a teenager learning that she is a demon. Keeley is certainly introspective, but lacking in angst. While the actual plot developments in this and the first installments are modest, the growth of Keeley through surprise and wonder are satisfying. Other books in the series are also enjoyable.
This is, maybe, the last book in this series that doesn't require that you read practically every other book the author has written. Most of the rest of the books cannot stand alone OR as a discrete part of a discrete series. Save yourself the hassle. And the money. Find something else to read.
I really enjoy this series (and all the other series by this author). Its a little YA in tone, but the author is able to convey emotion to the reader, and is very prolific, and is price-savvy. I don't know how he does it, but we've gotten 3 or 4 books a year out of this guy. And if the proofing or editing isn't as perfect as it might be (it isn't actually too bad - he does use an editor), I don't hold that against him - I'm looking for story, and this guy has plots oozing out of him. Only criticism is that he hasn't, to my satisfaction, actually completed any of the series he's started. He has started new worlds/story-lines, but it'd be great to wrap up a couple of his worlds before starting a new line. That said, its clear that he has enough plots in his head to keep us all quite happy for a long time.
This series starts off with a lot of promise and then goes downhill in the later books. There are gaps in the books where the story jumps around and you feel like you missed a whole book somewhere. The main problem is that the character becomes too powerful too quickly with no real development to the point where she can just take control of anyone by thinking about it. There's no real drama or conflict in the story and the character becomes more distant and shallow as the series goes one. The first book was good and sets up a world that had a huge amount of promise but the series doesn't quite deliver.
A young teen may indeed enjoy the series. It's not bad. However there are better out there.
